Reprimand and HK$66.4 million fine for excessive fund switching, unsuitable derivative fund sales, overcharging and inadequate fee disclosure (2014 to 2023)
The SFC found that relationship managers pressed clients into excessive short-term fund trades (June 2016 to November 2017), that higher-risk derivative funds were sold to clients not assessed as understanding derivatives (February 2014 to December 2018), and that the bank kept benefits and charged fees above disclosed levels (November 2014 to May 2023), receiving at least HK$22.4 million in excess. The SFC reprimanded and fined the bank HK$66.4 million. The bank accepted the findings; it had compensated clients and refunded excess amounts.
