Deferred prosecution agreement: bribery of Libyan officials (FCPA) and USD LIBOR manipulation
Société Générale S.A. entered a deferred prosecution agreement with the US Department of Justice on one count of conspiracy to violate the FCPA anti-bribery provisions (payments through a Libyan broker, 2004 to 2009) and one count of transmitting false commodities reports (USD LIBOR submissions, 2010 to 2011); its subsidiary SGA Société Générale Acceptance N.V. pleaded guilty. The USD 860 million in criminal penalties includes USD 292.8 million credited for the payment to the French PNF; the CFTC's roughly USD 475 million overlaps and must not be added without that note. Parent-level matter, recorded for context only.
Shown for context only: the parent Société Générale S.A. and SGA Société Générale Acceptance N.V. were the defendants; the Monaco subsidiary was not a party.
