About PPLI.com, India edition

PPLI.com is a research publisher on private placement life insurance: the bespoke, separately managed version of a unit-linked life policy issued by insurers outside India. This edition is written for NRIs, returning NRIs, Indian families with members abroad, and the Chartered Accountants, FEMA practitioners, private bankers and lawyers who work with them. It explains what Indian law does with such a policy, what it costs and where it fits, so that a proposal can be read critically and the right questions taken to your own advisers.
Who we are

A publisher, not an intermediary

PPLI.com is operated by Talniri Ltd, an Israeli company owned by Eldar Edmond Grady, who acquired the domain in 2020 and runs the site as its CEO and principal author. The site has been online since 1999 and today publishes in twelve languages, each edition written for the law of its readers’ country rather than translated from the American one. The India edition opened in October 2026 beside the Hindi edition, which has covered the same ground in Hindi since 2025.

PPLI.com is not an insurer, an insurance intermediary, an investment adviser or a tax adviser. It is not registered with the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India or with the Securities and Exchange Board of India, it does not solicit, arrange or recommend insurance in India, and it receives no commission from any insurer. Where the site names an insurer, a regulator or a product, it does so as a matter of record; where a reader’s question moves towards an engagement, the provider, the scope and the fees are agreed separately and in writing, and are not part of what this website offers.

How the pages are made

From the statute, dated and sourced

Primary sources first

Every Indian rule on this edition is stated from the Income-tax Act, the FEMA notifications of the Reserve Bank of India, IFSCA’s regulations, CBDT circulars and tribunal orders, with the section or regulation number in the text. Where a statement rests on a practitioner summary instead, the text says so.

Dated, not timeless

Each page carries the date it was checked and the financial year its figures belong to. Rules that change with a Finance Act, FAST-DS, the 10(10D) ceilings, the LRS TCS rate, are revised the week the change is published.

Where the law is unsettled, we say so

Whether a resident may buy a GIFT City policy under LRS, whether an offshore unit-linked policy is a ULIP for section 45(1B), and the weight of two tribunal orders on foreign policies are open questions, and the pages treat them as open rather than resolving them in the policy’s favour.

The full method, including how we credit reviewers and how to report an error, is on Editorial standards. The people who sit on the board, and the writers behind the research, are on Advisory board.

Author

Eldar Edmond Grady

Eldar Edmond Grady
CEO of PPLI.com and the author of the India edition. An economist by training (B.A., Hebrew University of Jerusalem) with a background in capital markets and hedge funds, and two technology exits before the age of 29, he has worked in private placement life insurance since acquiring PPLI.com in 2020. He writes the research himself, reads every question sent through the site, and answers in writing. He is not a Chartered Accountant, a FEMA practitioner or an Indian lawyer, and nothing he writes is advice on any reader’s own position.
