Bermuda Bitcoin life insurance carrier Meanwhile raises US$37.5m, with brokers in Singapore on board
Bermuda-based Bitcoin life insurer Meanwhile said on 8 October it had raised US$37.5 million in new funding from its existing investors, led by Bain Capital Crypto with participation from Haun Ventures, Framework Ventures, Pantera Capital, Apollo, Northwestern Mutual Future Ventures and Morgan Creek Digital, taking its total funding past US$180 million. Meanwhile said the round follows a surge in international demand for its Bitcoin life insurance policies, particularly in Asia, Europe and the Middle East, amid broader macro instability.
Since launching its BTC Life 1-Pay policy, the firm has signed 15 brokers serving high-net-worth families, including in the insurance hubs of Singapore, Hong Kong, the UAE and Switzerland, the company said. Those partners include Lioner, an insurance, trust and family office group with offices in Hong Kong, Singapore and Zurich, and Apeiron Group, a marketplace for high-net-worth life insurance, the company said.
BTC Life 1-Pay, launched in early 2026, is a single-premium whole life policy aimed at high-net-worth clients outside the United States, according to the company. Under the policy, a client pays a single premium in Bitcoin and receives a guaranteed Bitcoin death benefit for life; the policy's value grows in Bitcoin, and after the first year the owner can borrow up to 90% of the policy value with no repayment schedule and no margin calls, the company said.
Policies can be held by individuals, trusts or companies, Meanwhile said.
Meanwhile Insurance Bitcoin (Bermuda) Limited holds what the company describes as the first Class IILT license granted by the Bermuda Monetary Authority, received in July 2024 after two years in the regulator's sandbox. The Bermuda unit is licensed to transact long-term business with Sophisticated Persons only, and its products are not available in all jurisdictions, being offered only through appropriately licensed intermediaries where permitted, the company said.
Meanwhile said its net long-term underwriting income has already passed last year's total and is on track to more than double in 2026.
