Ask a Singapore research question

Ask about a rule, a figure or a source in the Singapore edition: a nomination under the Insurance Act, how IRAS treats a payout, what a calculator assumes, or which other country can still tax a family living here. We reply by email in general terms. We do not review personal circumstances, recommend a policy or arrange insurance.

What we can answer

Questions about the research

Most questions from Singapore readers fall into one of these. A few lines are enough.
  • How a section 132 trust nomination or a revocable nomination works, and what it does not do.
  • How Singapore treats a life policy, and why a Singapore-only resident usually gains no local tax saving from one.
  • What the US, UK, India, China or Australia may still tax once a family lives in Singapore.
  • A figure from one of our calculators that you want to understand or challenge.
  • A source we cite that you think is out of date.

Share only what the question needs. Leave out NRIC, account and policy numbers and documents.

Singapore, or wherever you are tax resident. If another country may also tax you, mention it in the question.

We reply by email in general terms and do not recommend or arrange any policy. We handle your details under the Singapore privacy policy and explain any next step in our reply.

What happens next

Read, answered, sourced

01

A person reads it

Every message is read by the research team, not a system. If we need one more fact to answer in general terms, we ask.
02

We reply by email

The reply sets out what the law or the published guidance says, with the statute section, IRAS guide or MAS page it rests on, and the page on this site that goes deeper.
03

We say where research stops

If the answer turns on your own facts, we say so and explain what to ask a Singapore-licensed adviser, a lawyer or a tax adviser in the other country. We do not make introductions or arrange policies.

If you would rather not use the form, write to [email protected]. Please keep NRIC numbers, account numbers and policy documents out of any message.

Common questions

About asking us

Is this financial advice?
No. PPLI.com is a research publisher. It is not licensed or regulated by the Monetary Authority of Singapore, and it does not give financial, tax or legal advice. We explain the rules and point to the primary sources, so that a conversation with your own adviser starts from the right place.
Can you recommend an insurer or arrange a policy?
No. We are not an insurer, an insurance broker or a financial adviser, and we do not arrange insurance or introduce readers to firms that do. To check whether a firm is licensed or exempted in Singapore, search the MAS Financial Institutions Directory.
Who reads my message, and how is it kept?
Eldar Edmond Grady and the research team at PPLI.com. Our hosting and email providers process messages for us, as the Singapore privacy policy explains, together with how long enquiries are kept and how to ask for access, correction or deletion.
What if I am an adviser asking about a client?
Ask in general terms and leave the client unnamed. We answer technical questions from advisers, trustees, lawyers and family offices in the same way, with the sources cited.

PPLI.com is an independent research publisher. It is not licensed or regulated by the Monetary Authority of Singapore, it is not an insurer, insurance broker or financial adviser, and nothing on this page is an offer or invitation to enter into a contract of insurance.
