The PPLI Library for Singapore residents

Everything PPLI.com publishes on life insurance wrappers for people who live in Singapore: why Singapore’s own tax barely changes, which foreign tax still follows the families who moved here, how nominations and probate work, what protects a policy and who can see it. Each piece cites the statute, the IRAS or MAS page, or the foreign authority it rests on. Start with the two guides below, browse by benefit, or search the index.

Singapore law as at 27 September 2026, Year of Assessment 2026, for individuals resident in Singapore. Pieces on a home country state that country’s rules at the same date.

PPLI.com is a research publisher, not an insurer, broker or financial adviser, and is not licensed by the Monetary Authority of Singapore. Nothing here is an offer of insurance. To buy a policy, deal with an insurer or adviser licensed or exempted by MAS and check it on the MAS Financial Institutions Directory.

Written for people who live in Singapore, under Singapore law, with the foreign rules that still reach many of them. For the full US rules read the US PPLI Library; for UK residents, the UK library.

Jurisdictions

Where the policy is issued, and what changes

For a Singapore resident the first question is whether MAS has licensed the insurer, because that decides the Policy Owners’ Protection Scheme, the nomination rules and who may offer the policy here. The domiciles that issue policies internationally differ mainly in their regulator and in what protects policyholders if an insurer fails.

The same research, for other tax homes

The Singapore edition summarises foreign rules only as far as they reach a Singapore resident. For the full treatment of one country’s law, use that country’s edition.
